2120 Transition

On December 31, 2022 we transitioned out of our pack hub space known as 2120. This was a sad time as our landlord informed us that all tenants’ leases had been ended. Here is a brief video of just a fraction of the moments we had there. We have moved most of our items into storage as we look for what’s next. Reach out if you can support us in this transition and learn more about what our 2120 space was below.

2120 is a small urban food hub & aggregation space in South Shore that is the brick-and-mortar location for Fresher Together’s off-farm work.

Started as a response to COVID-19 and out of a need for a space for mutual aid, 2120 has become an aggregation space used to pack up the BIPOC Harvest Bag & Community Grain Shares as well as support local farmers with needs from refrigeration to printing. . Its futuristic name not only is a reminder that this is us “practicing for the future” of what we want our food system and collaborative work to look like, but it’s also the address of the storefront located on East 71st street in South Shore, Chicago. We envision 2120 as a productive space allowing farmers needed resources for wash pack, aggregation, and distribution while supporting community members with ease of access to fresh affordable food.

Infrastructure is vital to food sovereignty and resiliency. At 2120 we have a local artist’s (Molly Costello) print that states “The Future is Mutual Aid” and we often say our name, which is just our street address, sounds futuristic because we are practicing for the future.

This is how we want to show up. Together.

Our work is rooted in the resiliency of collaboration and building together with our peers and neighbors. Born out of a pandemic the ideal of creating a space modeled after the way mycelium creates a network to take care of each other and pass nutrients along, we strive to have our space be similar, and as we share skills, support staff, and the tangible things like cold storage, printers, pack stations, and grow lights we grow our resiliency in interdependence.
