What’s in the Bag? Micro greens

RECIPE: MICROGREENS WITH AVOCADO TOASTS (taken from Urban Eden Farm’s FB page!)

4 slices brown seeded bread
1 punnet micro garlic chives
1 punnet micro red radish
1 punnet micro wasabi mustard
1 avocado
½ lemon juice
1 ½ oz goat cheese, crumbled
Freshly ground black pepper, optional

Toast the bread slices. In a bowl mash the avocado with lemon juice and cracked black pepper. Spread the mashed avocado over the toast and top with the crumbled white stilton. Add the microgreens and liberally top the toasts.

Community Grain Shares - Chicago Bread Club

The mission of the Chicago Bread Club is to share the art and knowledge of bread, and to promote and expand the racial equity of the regional grain economy. Community Grain Shares create curated local grain and bean experiences for community with a focus on making sure those, often with little or no access to local grain, receive it. We partner with local grain farmers to purchase grain and beans, especially culturally significant grain and beans in bulk to repackage and distribute to the community. These items include things like oats, beans, grits, cornmeal, flours, etc. With shared leadership of both organizations, Fresher Together manages Chicago Bread Club and the Community Grain Shares Program.   To learn more visit the website here

A fist full of tulsi power

Tulsi- is an Ayurvedic herb also called Holy Basil. We include it pretty frequently in the Weekly bag because we love it and all the magic that comes along with it.

Use Ideas: Makes a great tea! Hot or Iced!  Dry it and add it to your honey for an infused honey. Throw a little in your stir-fry or salad.

Benefits: My favorite benefits - It’s an adaptogen and helps with stress reduction. It also is a powerful anti-inflammatory.

About Bee-utiful Chicago

Bee-utiful Honey & Candles is the product of many years of work by thousands of bees. Oscar Villa started beekeeping in 2013 in Chicago, but his interest in farming and agriculture traces back to his childhood in Bolivia. Oscar grew up in the city of Sucre but always took every chance to work with his grandmother gardening and raising chickens.

A decade after arriving in Chicago, Oscar's conversations with beekeepers at the Urban Livestock Expo led to a passion for bees and the craft of honey production. He started with two hives in 2013, and as of 2021, Bee-utiful has about 70 hives.
